Why does my SSD feel hot?

It is normal for the unit to feel hot to the touch after extended use. The specially designed aluminum housing protects the flash chips and controller within the unit by absorbing heat generated during prolonged activity and dissipating it through the air. If the housing was made of plastic (as some competitors) the drive would feel cooler to the touch, but the heat is trapped inside the housing causing poor performance and potential damage.
